monday: 

on monday we talked about the replication of DNA and protein synthesis

replication of DNA=to make another copy of

protein synthesis-building up, creating protein

WITHOUT PROTEIN SYNTHESIS WE WOULD DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nucleus: important in protein synthesis, replication, and reproducing

mitochondria are important in the process of respiration-where energy is released

ER, ribosomes, and nucleus all take part in protein synthesis

in photosynthesis process, the stomata take in CO2 and release oxygen

tuesday:

on tuesday we talked about what is in water and that plants can survive if they are placed in water because in water there are water molecules, salt (possibly), carbon dioxide, and oxygen, which are all the things plant need.  so if the plant was placed in a sunny window ledge, it could survive!

on tuesday we also talked about if we could survive without plants.  the answer is no.  see, plants get energy from the sun, then the primary consumers eat the plants, so they get 10% of the energy from the plants, then the secondary consumers eat the primary consumers, so the get 10% of the energy from the primary consumers, then the tertiary consumers eat the secondary consumers, so they get 10% of the energy from the secondary consumers.  so we get energy from plants because we eat things that eat plants.  so if there were no plants, then we wouldn't be able to get any energy.

Wednesday:

on wednesday we talked about fish!!  woohoo.    we also talked more about plants and the energy pyramid (above)

plants are autotrophs-which means they make food from the sun

a Joole is the way energy is measured.  between each level of the energy pyramid, 10% of the original energy is transferred.

we also talked about carbs and calories a little

carb-a type of sugar

calorie-the amount of energy needed to raise one gram of water one degree in temperature.

a calorie is related to energy-energy is related to the energy pyramid!!

thursday:

on thursday mr. finley was absent :( so we did a worksheet that was really hard!!

friday:

on friday we had a quiz!!!!  woohoo we all love those!!
